ATA Gears Up for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

The American Trucking Associations announced that the 2008 edition of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week will be observed Aug. 24-30. The annual Week is designed to recognize the important economic role that truck drivers play as they safely and efficiently deliver the nation's goods each day.

In a letter commemorating last year's NTDAW, President George Bush noted that the week was an opportunity for Americans to learn more about truck drivers' important contributions to society. "The men and women of our trucking industry help make our Nation's economy the most productive and promising in the world," Bush wrote. "Our citizens and businesses rely on professional truck drivers to transport billions of tons of freight across our country in an efficient and safe manner."

During the annual Week, companies across the country will honor drivers in various ways. These include giving driver safety awards and gifts, holding company picnics, and visiting drivers on the road. ATA says to watch for more information on suggested activities and information regarding NTDAW hats, banners, t-shirts, and other merchandise as the time gets closer.
