Oregon Swears In 11 New State Police Recruits

Oregon State Police Superintendent Timothy McLain swore in 11 new troopers on Mmonday -- 10 men and one woman -- as they began 24 weeks of training at the Oregon Public Safety Academy. The agency has hired nearly 80 recruit troopers since July 1, 2007, through a stepped-up recruitment program and a retooled Web site for that effort, www.OSPTrooper.com.

"This is exciting to see the second outstanding group of recruits for the Oregon State Police to be sworn in during the last four weeks," said Gov. Ted Kulongoski. "As we continue to work towards 24/7 coverage on Oregon's roads, I am sure that those who successfully complete the upcoming training challenges will go on to be outstanding troopers, protecting and serving Oregonians on our highways and in our communities."

All 11 troopers will be assigned to the Patrol Services Division upon successfully completing their training. The recruitment Web site was designed to provide important information to prospective applicants, including the ability to fill out an application online and immediately e-mail it to OSP. New applicants must complete entry-level testing that includes a physical fitness test consisting of push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile timed run. Upcoming testing dates are set for June 21, July 12, and July 19. The cutoff deadline for submitting applications to attend one of the testing dates is June 11.
