Another Federal Agency Director's Blog Debuts

NIOSH has a science blog where Director Dr. John Howard can post his comments, and HHS Director Mike Leavitt has an official blog. The blogging tide is sweeping federal agencies, in fact, with DOT chief Mary Peters starting her own recently. One of the latest from a federal safety outfit is the blog of Ileana Arias, Ph.D., director of CDC's Injury Center.

Available at www.cdc.gov/ncipc/directors_view, her blog is intended as a way to further the center's partership efforts and to discuss timely issues, Arias wrote in her initial post. She promised to offer updates every two weeks or so and listed "three very important areas" on which the center will focus for the next three to five years:

* Promoting safe, stable, and nurturing relationships between children, parents, and other care-givers as a way of making sure they are safe from injuries and maltreatment in the home.

* Ensuring that every home in America has functioning smoke alarms to reduce residential fires and related injuries and fatalities.

* Preventing falls among older adults to ensure independence and improve quality of life.

A link on the site invites comments, and additional links lead to information about the center's activities.
