ASTM Elects New Chair of Committee D22 on Air Quality

ASTM International Committee D22 on Air Quality has named James S. Webber, Ph.D., research scientist at the Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health, Albany, N.Y., as its new chair. The committee consists of approximately 400 members responsible for more than 145 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards. Committee D22 on Air Quality is one of 138 technical standards writing committees.

An ASTM member since 1994, Webber works on multiple D22 subcommittees and is secretary of Subcommittee D22.09 on the Technical Advisory Group for ISO Technical Committee 146 on Air Quality. For his contributions, the committee has honored him with an Award of Appreciation twice, in 2004 and 2007. In addition to his work with D22, he also serves on Committee E35 on Pesticides and Alternative Control Agents.

Webber earned a B.S. in biology from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., and an M.S. in zoology from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.; he has been with the New York State Department of Health since 1979. His work focuses on the analysis of asbestos and other hazardous microparticles in the environment. He holds a Ph.D. in environmental chemistry from the State University of New York, Albany. Outside of ASTM, Webber is a member of the Microscopy Society of America and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference Institute.
