Truckers Needed for Design of Driver Injury Survey

On May 16 the American Transportation Research Institute will host an online forum to offer motor carriers the opportunity to provide input to the proposed Survey of Truck Driver Injury and Health that is being conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The NIOSH survey is being designed to address several important questions including the prevalence of various health conditions and sleep disorders in the truck driver population, the role of working conditions in driver health, and the relationship between work activities and driver injuries.

The webinar offers the opportunity for the trucking industry to provide input on the survey questions so that the focus will be on the most important driver health issues. Input also is needed to identify appropriate locations for conducting the survey to ensure broad industry representation. "It is critical that motor carriers participate in the design of this survey so that the questions are useful to the industry in addressing driver health," said Scott Mugno, managing director of Corporate Safety for FedEx Express.

Motor carriers can simultaneously listen and watch the live ATRI-sponsored webinar from any location in the United States that has Internet and telephone access. To register for the webinar, send an email to [email protected] and include the words "H/W Webinar" in the subject line.
