Food Quality Award Goes to West Liberty Foods

DuPont Qualicon hosted more than 400 people associated with the food industry at the 7th annual Food Quality Award during the Food Safety & Security Summit in Washington, D.C., recently.

Sponsored by DuPont Qualicon and presented by Food Quality Magazine, the Food Quality Award is given each year to a North American quality assurance/quality control department or program that has made significant improvements in food safety and quality, with a positive impact on business results. West Liberty Foods LLC of West Liberty, Iowa, was this year's winner. Previous winners included Hormel Foods, Beef Products Inc., Tyson Food Safety & Lab Services, SYSCO Corporation, Franklin Foods, Hygaard Fine Foods Ltd. and East Balt Commissary, Inc. of Chicago.

“I’m very pleased that our company was selected for the award,” said Edward Garrett, president and CEO of West Liberty Foods.  “Our company was built on our commitment to food safety and quality.”

"The Food Quality Award is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the good news in food safety and honor businesses for the positive, proactive initiatives they undertake to protect our food supply," said Luiz Fischmann, global marketing manager for DuPont Qualicon. At the event, Craig Binetti, president of DuPont Nutrition & Health, discussed major trends in the world's food supply and DuPont's response through innovative biotechnology. The trends are a demand for greater food security; the need for increased food production; and, a drive for renewable energy and materials.
