Indian Firm Signs First Clinton Climate Initiative Development Agreement

An Indian company, K Raheja Corp, has signed the first Project Development Agreement under the Clinton Climate Initiative's Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program. The agreement calls for Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls to perform energy-efficiency retrofits in the Inorbit Mall, the largest mall in Mumbai, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by improving the energy infrastructure at the mall. The initiative will reduce energy costs and operating costs. Johnson Controls announced the signing Feb. 19.

The Johnson Controls Building Efficiency business provides HVAC&R equipment and control systems, industrial refrigeration, fire and security systems, and services for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings in countries around the world. K Raheja Corp (www.krahejacorp.com) is one of India's largest real estate developers, with offices in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, and Chennai. The company announced last year it will design future projects to conform to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System.

The Clinton Climate Initiative brings together energy service companies, the world's largest banks, and some of the world's largest cities to reduce energy consumption in existing buildings. "Johnson Controls is pleased to be working with such an innovative and progressive company in India," said Clay Nesler, vice president of global energy and sustainability for Johnson Controls. "We are especially proud that this agreement represents the first project in the world to be signed as part of the Clinton Climate Initiative."
