Health Insurance Tops Workers’ List of Job Rewards
A poll conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates for the Center for State and Local Government Excellence found health insurance and security lead Americans' list of what they want most from their jobs. Pay ranked much lower, according to the center, which is a Washington, D.C.-based organization helping state and local governments attract and retain talented workers.
The center posted results of the survey on www.slge.org Jan. 3. Given a choice among 15 benefits and characteristics that may be important when choosing a job, 84 percent ranked health insurance first. Job security and clear policies came in second, at 82 percent, followed by retirement or pension plan (76 percent) and a flexible, family-friendly workplace (71 percent).
Pay ranked tenth, at 65 percent. Potential for promotions (66 percent), being creative and intellectually stimulating (66 percent), and working with talented managers (68 percent) were ranked higher.
