NIOSH May Add Pantex Workers to Special Exposure Cohort
Certain employees who worked during a 41-year period at the Pantex Plant (www.pantex.com), a U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration facility near Amarillo, Texas, that assembles and dismantles nuclear warheads, are being evaluated for possible addition to the Special Exposure Cohort under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000. NIOSH published a required noticed of the evaluation today.
Job titles and/or duties that would be covered by the designation are production workers, technicians, radiography, guards, physical plant, maintenance, administrative and support staff, contractors, and Atomic Energy Commission staff, and the period of employment is Jan. 1, 1950, through Dec. 31, 1991.
