AutoZone Recalls Booster Cables Due to Shock, Explosion Hazard
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Memphis, Tenn.-based AutoZone Parts Inc., announced a voluntary recall of approximately 140,000 Valucraft Booster Cables. The cables' clamps were assembled incorrectly, resulting in reverse polarity that poses an electrical shock and explosion hazard to consumers.
AutoZone says it has received reports of four incidents of reverse polarity that resulted in minor property damage. The recall involves both the Valucraft eight and ten gauge booster cables. The orange cables were manufactured in China, have "8GA" or "10GA" printed on them, and were sold at AutoZone stores nationwide and on its Web site from June 2007 through October 2007 for between $12 and $20.
