From the Expo Floor: Specdrum Debuts All-in-One Eye-and-Ear Protection Device
With more than 850 exhibitors on hand demonstrating their wares--and the flurry of activity that surrounds such showcasing--it is difficult to give due attention to every individual item on display. Inevitably, in other words, it is too easy for some things to get lost in the shuffle amidst so much hustle and bustle. But this particular product managed to catch both our eyes and our ears.
The product is an all-in-one eye-and-ear protection device designed by the San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based Specdrum, and it is making its world debut at this Expo. The apparatus is designed to simultaneously protect the eyes and ears by integrating OSHA-approved eyewear with a utility patented hinge mount compatible with a variety of ear plugs. The device's designer, Richard Sanpei, Specdrum's founder, creator, and partner, is a 25-year veteran general contractor who says he saw the need for such combo protection for his construction workers and decided to do something about it. "Specdrum fills a vital need as a combination eye and ear safety device," he says. "The demand for quality, efficiency, and safety are a premium, and this design fills an obvious void in the market."
Whether you need eye or ear protection--or both--Specdrum gear is made to fit the task, Sanpei says. The gear's temple pieces ride comfortably above the ears when you need to hear, and the frames can be used for ear protection alone if you want to lower the lenses from your eyes. Or they can hang around your neck during a work break.
Sanpei and his Specdrum partner Richard Takata are on hand to demonstrate the device and its patented hinge design at Booths 1190 (Pan Taiwan Enterprise Co. Ltd.) and 2476 (Shan Shui Spectacles Industrical Co. Ltd.). For more information, visit http://www.specdrumsafety.com/.
