3E Addresses State of its Unions at NSC User Group Event

"We now have the undisputedly largest commercial MSDS database on the planet," said Jeffrey Starr, vice president of marketing for Carlsbad, Calif.-based 3E, delivering what he called a "full-frontal presentation of information" at the company's gathering of user groups in attendance last week at NSC's Congress & Expo in Chicago. 3E's acquisition in August of its Montreal, Canada-based competitor, MSDS Solutions, is the leading factor for the massive database holdings, Starr said, adding that MSDS Solutions continues to operate from its facilities in Montreal as 3E Company Canada.

Starr also pointed to 3E's acquisition two months ago of HSE Systems, a Massillon, Ohio-based provider of MSDS authoring systems, as a precursor to more anticipated merger-and-acquisition activity to come in 2008. With its 380 employees, 3E will approach $50 million in revenue for 2007, he said.

According to Tamie Webber, director of product management, part of that revenue will come from next month's release of 3E's new REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals) module, a tool designed to help global manufacturers register their chemicals in a unified way, providing information about each substance in a company's inventory in all the different languages applicable for a company's operations.

At its Expo booth, 3E demonstrated enhancements to its flagship 3E Online-MSDS management system, which now includes a Department of Homeland Security-Chemicals of Interest tool with which users can compare their inventory to the DHS Chemicals of Interest list; a new Hazard Class Reports feature, with which users who have purchased the Chemical Classification module are now able to review hazard classification report data associated with Fire Code and SARA hazard classes; and new editing and inventory statistics features.
