CVSA, DOT Gear Up for Operation Safe Driver Week, Oct. 21-28
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Department of Transportation are figuratively hitting the road and steering awareness toward Operation Safe Driver, a major enforcement and education effort planned for Oct. 21-28. The mission of the event is to improve commercial and non-commercial driver behavior and performance through effective enforcement and education strategies. During the week, a variety of commercial and non-commercial driver-focused enforcement and outreach activities will take place.
CVSA plans to focus on the many innovative approaches states are already using such as the Washington State TACT program and the Smooth Operator program in the Mid-Atlantic region. While DOT and CVSA will be supporting the effort at the national level, they are encouraging law enforcement to provide support at the state, municipal, and county levels. CVSA has produced a variety of materials and invites companies to co-brand with their logos. CVSA will handle the production and printing of the materials, so there is no cost. Three of the Operation Safe Driver promotional pieces, including a tri-fold brochure called "Cutting It Close Can Cut Your Life Short" and two different folders suitable for handing out along with citations to drivers, are available on the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators Web site, http://www.aamva.org/KnowledgeCenter/Driver/Licensing/OperationSafeDriver_2007.htm.
CVSA is also working on a poster that can be posted at weigh stations, employer businesses, departments of motor vehicles, and other state facilities.
