ASHRAE President's GreenBits Blog Starts Well

GreenBits, a new blog written by ASHRAE President Kent Peterson, is quickly proving to be a hit with members of the society, which claims 50,000 members who are concerned with building's HVACR systems' efficiency. ASHRAE (online at www.ashrae.org) promotes sustainability, is involved in research and education, and maintains standards.

Peterson will use his blog, http://cms.ashrae.biz/blog/, to discuss what's happening in the ASHRAE community and share his thoughts and experiences as he travel to various events. His first dispatch talks about the International Institute of Refrigeration's 22nd International Congress of Refrigeration, which took place in August in Beijing and was hosted by the Chinese Association of Refrigeration. "I was impressed with both the organization of the event and the amount of technical exchange that transpired during the 5-day event," Peterson writes. "Attendees included representatives from 55 different countries, including numerous ASHRAE members from around the world." Points he brought back from the trip include: using CO2 as a refrigerant appears to be gaining popularity in Europe; "as an industry, we will need to respond globally to climate change concerns"; the Montreal Protocol is working; and lots of construction is happening in Beijing as it prepares for the 2008 Olympics.

A half dozen comments already had been posted to the blog by 12:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday, getting it off to a good start.
