OSHA Schedules Maritime Advisory Committee Meeting
OSHA is holding an open meeting of the Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) and its workgroups in Oakland, Calif., on July 31 and Aug. 1. Notice of the MACOSH meeting was published in the July 13, Federal Register.
The workgroups will meet on July 31 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and MACOSH will meet on Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Both meetings will be at the Elihu Harris State Office Building, 1515 Clay Street, Oakland, Calif., 94612.
The 15-person committee advises the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on issues relating to occupational safety and health in maritime industries. The committee has five workgroups: Health, Longshoring, Cranes and Falls, Shipyards, and Outreach and Safety Culture.
Some of the topics for discussion include: radiation exposure at maritime terminals from cargo screening devices, crane-operator radio communications, traffic safety, roll-on roll-off cargo guidance, working on or under suspended loads, spray paint standards, substance abuse, OSHA/Coast Guard coordination, updating the OSHA Training Institute shipyard and longshoring courses, training requirements guidance products, and industry pocket guides.
