New York Raises Threshold for Comp Medical Authorization Requests
Effective tomorrow, July 11, New York State increases the threshold amount above which providers of services such as surgery, consultations, diagnostic testing, and physical therapy for injured workers must seek prior authorization. A workers' compensation law enacted this year raised the authorization threshold from $500 to $1,000.
The change, contained in Section 28 of Chapter 6 of the Laws of 2007, applies to all requests made on or after July 11, 2007, according to a notice issued over the signature of Donna Ferrara, chair of the New York State Workers' Compensation Board.
