Safety Engineers Given Chance to Help Sick, Injured at Orlando Conference
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) announced today that Florida's Blood Centers (FBC), in its continuing effort to provide a safe and adequate blood supply to the state's sick and injured since its creation in 1942, will host a blood drive on Sunday, June 24, at ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center. A blood mobile will be located in front of the convention center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to take donations.
According to FBC, despite having 65 percent eligibility, only five percent of the Florida population actually donates blood. FBC needs at least 1,500 donors per day to meet the needs of patients serviced by its centers. With transportation-related accidents being the number one cause of on-the-job deaths and car accident victims using 50 pints or more of blood, FBC says donations are essential to keeping up with demand.
All blood donors will have the opportunity to win $25 Darden Restaurants' gift certificates, which can be used at all Olive Garden, Smokey Bones, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, and Red Lobster locations. Donors will also receive a free Sonny's BBQ Big Meal Deal and a free membership to Club Red. Picture identification is necessary in order to donate.
FBC remains the largest blood bank in Florida and the fourth largest independent blood bank in the nation.
