Houston Family Contribution Creates Second Hispanic Safety Scholarship
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently reported that Rixio and Alejandra Medina, of Houston, have donated another $20,000 to establish a second $2,000 scholarship under the Medina Scholarship for Hispanics in Safety and endow the professional development grant recently established.
Rixio Medina, CSP, is an ASSE member. The Medinas have made several contributions to the ASSE Foundation over the years to help ASSE members enhance their career. In response to the gift, the CITGO Petroleum Corp., Medina's employer, donated $7,500, for a combined total of $27,500.
The Medina Scholarship for Hispanics in Safety is awarded to bilingual safety and health graduates and undergraduates pursuing a degree in safety, fire protection, industrial hygiene, or a related field. ASSE student members can submit their applications for scholarships to the ASSE Foundation from September through December each year.
