EBSA to Host Free Small Business Owner Workshops

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) recently announced it will hold two free workshops on Tuesday, June 26, to help small businesses understand pension and health plan administration, retirement options, and veterans training and reemployment rights. The workshop take place at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, 1 Federal Drive, Fort Snelling, Minn., from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CDT.

EBSA will present an overview of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the basics of pension and health plan administration, an overview of the voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program (VFCP), and discuss the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). EBSA and the Internal Revenue Service will also present an introduction to the types of pension plans available and the regulatory requirements associated with each type of plan.

In addition, the Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) will present an overview of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), which guarantees veterans employment and reemployment rights, including protection for certain employment-based benefits, such as retirement.

Pre-registration is required and must be completed before June 20. Download a registration form at www.dol.gov/ebsa/pdf/MNworkshop.pdf or contact Fran Gray or Renee Brown at (816) 426-5131.
