3E Acquires HSE Systems

Carlsbad, Calif.-based 3E Co., a provider of EH&S compliance and information management services, has acquired Massillon, Ohio-based HSE Systems and its flagship product MSDgen, a software system for authoring and distributing material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and labels. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands 3E's MSDS authoring offering to customers by adding MSDgen's ability to author MSDSs in-house, because the MSDgen platform will now be available with 3E's Ariel regulatory content.

HSE Systems, a privately held company, will continue to operate from its Ohio site as part of 3E. It has an additional site in Paris, France.

"We are proud to be working with the company that pioneered the EH&S information services industry, and we are confident that our MSDgen platform will prove to be a valuable asset to 3E's strategic product offering," said Matthew A. Johnston, HSE Systems director of corporate development, in a June 1 press release.

The MSDgen (Material Safety Data generator) system is designed to address all issues related to hazard communication by equipping toxicologists, regulatory affairs specialists, and other EH&S professionals with technology for collecting and managing material-specific data for manufactured products, components, R&D chemicals, and purchased products. Ultimately, this data is used to generate MSDSs, SDSs, labels, and other product and regulatory documents for customer distribution, as well as employee safety and right-to-know.
