Peer-Reviewed Disaster Medicine Journal Announced

Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness is the title of a new, peer-reviewed journal being launched by the American Medical Association. AMA has mailed a brochure soliciting charter subscriptions for the journal; call 800-638-3030 in the United States and Canada or visit www.lww.com, the site of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, to order.

A sample table of contents included in the brochure lists guest commentaries from leaders in disaster medicine and public health preparedness; best practices; literature reviews; international perspectives and reviews; original research and critical analysis; and more. James J. James, M.D., DrPH, MHA, is editor in chief; he is director of AMA's Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response. He writes in a letter included in the brochure that the journal will be an "enabling resource" to extend the clincal mindset to a population-oriented focus and to better understand clinicians' role in the broader public health system.

An online peer-review process has been set up; visit www.ama-assn.org/go/DMPHP for information. Managing Editor Janet Thron (312-464-5124, [email protected]) is the contact for comments or questions about the journal's content or manuscript submissions.
