AIHA Takes New Approach to General Sessions

The American Industrial Hygiene Association is promising a high-profile lineup of keynote speakers at the 68th annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHce) that will focus on topics that range from creative problem solving to public health in the workplace.

Steve Uzzell, a former National Geographic photographer, will commence the conference on Monday, June 4, with his discussion, titled "Open Roads Open Minds: An Exploration of Creative Problem Solving." Using 185 photographs, taken from 42 states and 17 countries, Uzzell will try to inspire and inform his audience on how to make any venture an adventure.

Linda Rae Murray, MD, MPH, chief medical officer of primary care and community health at the Ambulatory and Community Health Network of Cook County, Chicago, will start things off again on Tuesday, June 5, by sharing her expertise and insight regarding the impact of social, economical, and political changes on worker health and safety with her presentation, titled "Public Health in the Workplace – Sparking Tradition With Invention." An "Ask the Expert" session will immediately follow to allow attendees to address their concerns in a more intimate format.

On Wednesday, June 6, attendees will have a chance to gain the ears of Edwin G. Foulke Jr., assistant secretary of labor of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and John Howard, MD, director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), as Dave Johnson, editor of Industrial Safety & Hygiene News, will host a talk-show-format discussion that will focus on questions e-mailed by attendees in advance of AIHce through an interactive section of the AIHce Web site. An "Ask the Expert" session will follow.
