AIHA Expands Internationally

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) is expanding its membership internationally with the recent creation of an "international affiliate member" classification following approval of changes in the organization's bylaws. AIHA said these members will be assessed one-fourth the regular membership dues.

To qualify, an individual must reside in, and be a citizen of, a country defined by the World Bank as a low-, lower-middle-, or upper-middle-income economy, and actively be practicing occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS).

Credit for the vote was given to the work conducted by the International Affairs Task Force (IATF), appointed by AIHA President Roy Buchan, DrPH, CIH, led by board member Marshall Denhoff, CIH, ROH, and comprised of members of the International Affairs Committee, past and present board members, a member of the Continuing Education Committee, a member of the Product Standards and Guidelines Committee, and staff members.

IATF was charged with developing and recommending tactics on how best to achieve the international goals identified in the new AIHA strategic plan. This included international membership, product sales, education delivery, public relations, and roles and responsibilities of relevant stakeholder groups.
