20-Employee Facility in Louisiana Wins OSHA Star

OSHA gave its highest VPP honor yesterday to a facility in Hodge, La., that has only 19 employees and one contract employee. If that doesn't prove that any employer can achieve the best accolade in OSHA's repertoire, possibly nothing will.

The Entergy Operations Jonesboro Service Center was welcomed into the agency's VPP pantheon by OSHA Acting Regional Administrator Frank Strasheim in Dallas. He said the center "has demonstrated excellence in safety and health management. The company's outstanding efforts include achieving an injury and illness rate that is 77 percent below the national average for the industry."

The facility distributes electricity to 14,435 customers. The employees construct and repair power lines, install street lights, and provide meter service.
