U.S. Chamber Appoints Homeland Security, Mideast Chiefs

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced two big promotions April 11: the promotions of Ann Beauchesne to head its Homeland Security Division and Daeman Harris to vice president for the Middle East and Africa of the International Division.

"Ann is a perfect fit to head the chamber's homeland security department," said Dan Christman, U.S. Chamber of Commerce senior vice president of international affairs. "In this role, Ann will ensure that American businesses and their concerns are fully integrated in the development of homeland security policy and planning." The chamber said its goals for the homeland security program this year are to work with DHS "to ensure the private sector is fully engaged with homeland security directors at the state level and to institutionalize the private sector's inclusion at all levels of government in homeland security planning, training and exercising." Before joining the chamber, Beauchesne was director of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division at the National Governors Association.

Daeman was an Arabic linguist and interpreter with the U.S. military and is a combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq. "Daeman's experience in international affairs -- specifically his extensive working knowledge of the people and cultures of Middle East and Africa -- will prove to be a valuable resource to the chamber," said Tom Donohue, president and CEO of the chamber. "I congratulate him on a well-deserved promotion and look forward to him growing the position with efforts to maintain trade relations in the region."
