Top Mine Safety Research Issues on Tap at Panel's May 2-3 Meeting
CDC's Mine Safety and Health Research Advisory Committee has a May 2-3 meeting set in the Pittsburgh area to discuss several important projects now under way. MSHA has been busy since the MINER Act was signed into law, and these research projects -- focused mostly on emergency escape and response -- are vital if the agency is to fulfill remaining assignments.
CDC's announcement said the meeting will focus on communications and tracking, with an update on refuge chamber activities, mine seals research, projects related to disaster prevention and response, and behavioral research on mine escape. Another update report will be presented by the associate director for mining.
The meeting will be open to the public. For information, contact Jeffery L. Kohler, Ph.D., Executive Secretary, MSHRAC, NIOSH, CDC, at (412) 386-5301 (fax (412) 386-5300).
