Mold, Moisture Prevention Manual Offers Constructive Advice

Despite the presence of improved technology, increased training opportunities, and more sophisticated building systems, moisture and mold problems continue to affect new buildings. Demonstrating how to detect and prevent these problems and thereby avoid costly setbacks in the design and construction phase of a project, coauthors J. David Odom and George DuBose of the Orlando-based Liberty Building Forensics Group, together with building envelope expert Richard Scott and IAQ mechanical engineer Norman Nelson, have released "Mold and Moisture Prevention," a 124-page manual for designers, contractors, and building owners identifying the latest information on constructing moisture-free buildings.

Published by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) as part of its Professional Development Program, the guide offers practical advice for building envelope and rainwater intrusion, HVAC and humidity control, and mold and moisture remediation.

NCARB adapted Odom's and DuBose's previous manual, "Preventing Moisture & Mold Problems in Hot, Humid Climates: Design & Construction Guidelines," for use in continuing education training for architects nationwide. Written in cooperation with Disney Development Company and CH2M Hill, it has been the basis for more than $2 billion in construction projects worldwide, according to Liberty.

For information on obtaining the new manual, visit Liberty's Web site at www.lpdg.net or contact Odom at 407-697-7227 or [email protected].
