Hazard Preparedness, Workplace Violence Key Issues for AAOHN
As outlined in its 2007 public policy platform, released in February, AAOHN's priority issues this year include hazard preparedness, confidentiality of health information, health and productivity, the Nurse Licensure Compact, quality of work environments, and workplace violence prevention. AAOHN President Susan A. Randolph noted that these six key issues, which are similar to those of previous platforms but refined to reflect a changing national scope, were developed with input from the association's members and "through environmental scanning" and are consistent with the mission set by the AAOHN board of directors.
"Each of these priorities addresses current issues and trends that impact the health and safety of employees, workplaces, and communities," Randolph said. "AAOHN advocates on behalf of occupational and environmental health nurses who, as recognized leaders in occupational and environmental health and safety, have the knowledge and competencies integral to the development of innovative and business-compatible health and safety programs and the business skills to address outcomes, productivity and cost-savings."
