Foundation Creating Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivors Registry
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation (
sca-aware.org), a Pittsburgh nonprofit information clearinghouse, recently announced the formation of the SCA Survivor Registry
TM. The foundation says collecting information such as the location of arrest, types of intervention, and outcomes will assist in identify variables and trends related to SCA survival and victims' return to pre-arrest levels of functioning. Survivors who join the registry can indicate their interest in participating in survey research and efforts to increase public awareness, SCAF said.
"The purpose of the registry is to identify people who have survived sudden cardiac arrest and who would like to help others survive," said Mary Newman, its executive director. SCAF says on average, about one out of 15 people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest survive thanks to CPR and treatment with a defibrillator within minutes of collapse.
SCA survivors interested in participating in the registry may contact the foundation at
