Earthquake Hazards Panel Meeting Next Month
The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program's Advisory Committee on Earthquake Hazards Reduction will meet at NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, Md., May 10-11 to discuss its annual report to the NIST director and several other items. NIST said yesterday the agenda may change and will be posted at http://nehrp.gov/.

The committee has 15 members who are appointed by the director of NIST; the chair of the U.S. Geological Survey's Scientific Earthquake Studies Advisory Committee serves in an ex officio capacity.
The committee assesses developments in the science and engineering of earthquake hazards reduction; the effectiveness of NEHRP in improving design and construction methods and practices; land use controls and redevelopment; prediction techniques and early warning systems; coordinated emergency preparedness plans; and public education and involvement programs.
