ASTM Begins $40,000 Case Study Competition

ASTM International yesterday announced the 2007 Advantage Award, a case study competition with prizes up to $25,000 that is open to users of ASTM standards worldwide. The concept is to convey the positive outcomes of an ASTM International standard or a group of its standards; there are 12,000 such standards, and ASTM has members in 125 countries.

Original papers demonstrating the impact and value of the ASTM standards, with supporting data and background information, are invited. Aug. 31, 2007, is the deadline for submissions. "While it is universally accepted that ASTM standards make our world safer, aid in the flow of commerce, and are the companions to regulation, the 2007 ASTM International Advantage Award seeks solid, quantitative data that supports the benefits of ASTM International standards," the announcement said.

The cash prizes are $25,000 for the first prize, $10,000 for the second prize, and $5,000 for the third prize. For more information, including competition rules and official entry form, visit www.astm.org/advantageaward.htm.
