AAOHN Stars Shine Tonight at Awards & Recognition Gala
The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses' version of the Oscars takes place here in Orlando tonight and is sure to be one of the highlights of this week's Symposium & Expo--especially for the award recipients. Although the Awards & Recognition Dinner, sponsored by AAOHN and the AAOHN Foundation, does not start until 7 p.m., some of those who will be honored have already been announced, and we have the envelope. . . .
This year's recipient of the AAOHN Business Recognition Award, which recognizes a company's commitment to providing a safe and healthful workplace for employees, contractors, and communities, as well as to environmental quality and product safety, is Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, Ill.
The recipient of the annual Golden Pen Award, which recognizes AAOHN Journal contributors for excellence in writing, is Margaret C. Thompson, MSN, RN, COHN-S, FAAOHN, for her article "Legislation Affecting Occupational Health Nursing: Identifying Relevant Laws and Regulations."
And the winner of this year's Innovations in Occupational Health Award, recognizing occupational and environmental health nurses or nurse teams whose innovative ideas have improved the effectiveness of occupational health care services, is Tammie Hansen, RN, COHN-S.
This is a very small sampling of tonight's honorees. Winners of the Best Poster Award and of the Member-Get-A-Member Campaign will be announced at the event, which is scheduled to last until 9 p.m. The 14 individuals composing the AAOHN 2007 Class of Fellows will be recognized, as will a host of chapter awards, scholarships, and grant recipients, all of for whom the "red carpet" is ready.
