AAOHN: New Criteria for Next Year's Posters; Proposals Due by June 8

Even though the poster session at this year's Symposium & Expo is only just getting underway today at 4 p.m., it's not too soon to start thinking about next year's submission. The deadline for submitting proposals for all posters that will be featured at the 2008 AAOHN symposium in Salt Lake City is June 8, 2007.

Next year, for the first time, the Mary Louise Brown Award will go to two first-place winners, one in the Research category and one in the Practice category. Both winners will receive $500.

The purpose of the award is to promote and recognize occupational and environmental health nurses who have contributed to the advancement of occupational and environmental health nursing through practice or research. Participation is open to all AAOHN-registered nurse members, and all poster presentations are eligible to receive the award. Judging, which will take place at the 2008 Symposium & Expo in Salt Lake City, will be based on a weighted rating scale using the following criteria:

  • (25%) Poster is consistent with the abstract and objectives. Abstract/Objectives/Content are addressed and may be developed into a quality educational workshop or session.
  • (25%) Poster has relevance to Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing. Poster content relates to the scope of occupational and environmental health nursing, contributes to the body of knowledge and helps build best practices.
  • (40%) Poster has implications for practice or research. Poster content can be applied in other occupational health settings and be the foundation for future research.
  • (10%) Poster design is visually appealing. The text is easy to read from a distance, adequate color contrast is provided, and the presentation is highlighted with photos and/or other graphic illustrations.
