2007 Symposium Coincides with National Occupational Health Nursing Week

In addition to hosting its 2007 Symposium & Expo in Orlando April 13-20, AAOHN will sponsor the fourth annual National Occupational Health Nursing Week, being observed across the nation April 16-20. The theme for this year's Week is "Occupational Health Nurses: Promoting Workforce Health, Safety and Productivity. According to AAOHN, the goal in establishing an official recognition week for occupational and environmental health nurses is to raise awareness of the important role they play in furthering the health and safety of the millions of people in the nation's communities and workforce, and to assist employees, employers, and the general public in gaining a better understanding of how OHNs contribute to workers' well-being.

The April dates commemorate the inception of the first professional association for occupational and environmental health nurses on April 19, 1942, when 300 nurses from 16 states founded the American Association of Industrial Nurses, the predecessor to AAOHN.
