2007 'HealthierFeds' Competition Coming Down to the Wire

The six-week HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge 2007 reached its finish line on April 1, but results are not yet final to show which federal agency has the biggest achievers in health and fitness this year. This is the second annual competition among agencies of the largest U.S. employer, and keynote speaker Melissa Johnson touted it during her April 18 Catherine Dempsey Lecture as a good example for other U.S. employers. Johnson spoke during the 2007 American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Symposium & Expo in Orlando, Fla.

Federal employees had until Feb. 20 to sign up for this year's competition. Results and plenty of other information are posted at www.healthierfeds.gov; no agency had a clear lead in terms of completions as of April 19, although some were far ahead of others in the number of employees participating.

Johnson urged her audience to visit other sites, including www.presidentschallenge.org and CDC's www.thecommunityguide.org, and to involve their employees and companies in fitness and health promotion.
