Sour gas-containing oil fields in some oil-producing areas hold exceptionally high risks for the personnel. The oil of these wells - rich in sulfur - contains very high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which can cause a contamination of 250,000ppm (ppm=parts per million) within the ambient air during incidents or accidents. H2S can lead to immediate death by asphyxiation already at a concentration of 1,000 ppm within the breathing air.

You will learn about recent advancements in breathing apparatus that provide the ability to protect against extraordinarily high H2S concentrations, going beyond the requirements of organizations like NIOSH, OSHA and CEN (Europe).
