Precision AirConvey

Sound Attenuation

Precision AirConvey's inline sound attenuation devices have been documented to reduce sound pressure levels without sound attenuation from 95.5 dBA to 79.8 dBA when installed near the face—where most of the sound in a pneumatic conveying system is generated. The 16.4 percent reduction supports compliance with 29 CFR 1910.95.

    Extech Instruments

    Sound Monitor

Extech Instruments' new SL130 Sound Level Monitor features both internal alarm illumination and external alarm output. Designed for worker safety compliance, the monitor is ideal for industrial environments--such as factories, plants, refineries, and mills--where there is a need to generate an alert when sound levels exceed a pre-set limit.

      Scantek, Inc.

      Noise Dosimeters

Scantek Inc.'s two new noise dosimeters from CESVA, the DC-112a and DC-112k, both comply with the ANSI S1.25-1991 Class 2 standard and are designed to protect workers against exposure to noise. The instruments allow the use of frequency weightings, time weighting, and exchange rates, and measure simultaneously using two programmable threshold levels.

        Scantek, Inc.

        Noise Recorder

Scantek Inc.'s newest product, the Noise Nuisance Recorder N-140NNR, is contained in a small, tough, lightweight case to prevent damage, and a padlock to prevent interference. Levels are logged once per second (or faster if necessary) for accurate detection of impulse noises like barking dogs or banging on walls.

          Quest Technologies Inc.

          CABLE-FREE DOSIMETER

Quest Technologies' The Edge is a cable-free noise dosimeter that is designed to measure personal noise exposure. The thin, lightweight, contoured, shoulder-mount instrument conforms to a worker's body for comfortable use while maintaining an upward orientation for its microphone. Available features include datalogging and time history with instant data review via the device's LCD viewing screen.

            Quest Technologies Inc.

            SOUND METERS

Quest Technologies' two new products--The Verifier and Quest SoundPro® Integrating Sound Level Meter models SE and DL--are designed for the evaluation and certification of Speech Intelligibility through fire alarm, mass notification, and other PA systems. The devices feature a digital readout in order to take the guesswork out of knowing whether a user is in compliance. Booth 872.

              MICRO DOSIMETER

Casella's CEL-350 dBadge Micro Noise Dosimeter is designed to provide all of the power of larger dosimeters in a smaller, lighter package that is similar in size to a modern flip phone. Providing simultaneous measurements with 5 dB and 3 dB exchange rates, the datalogging device has a built-in cable-less microphone and can provide for any combination of settings in every measurement. For February, OH&S puts the spotlight on:

                  Poll

OSHA Region 6 Administrator John Hermanson says the agency assessed the maximum statutory fines, a total of $21,500 for four alleged serious violations, against a small Oklahoma grain company in connection with amputation injuries suffered by two teenage workers. Does this case demonstrate the need to increase the amounts OSHA can issue in penalties?
