Ready to Beta Test NIOSH Pocket Guide's Mobile App?

AIHA alerted its members Aug. 26 that NIOSH is seeking industrial hygienists to beta test the app right away (by Sept. 1).

The American Industrial Hygiene Association alerted its members on Aug. 26 that NIOSH is asking industrial hygienists to beta test its new mobile NIOSH Pocket Guide app. The NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards is a widely used source of information on 677 commonly used chemicals, utilized by workers, employers, and occupational safety and health professionals to identify and control chemical hazards.

The new mobile app can be used on any device with an HTML5-capable Web browser and has been optimized for iOS and Android devices. All chemical data and the appendices of the NIOSH Pocket Guide are included in the app and can be used offline, but external resources such as "methods" require an active Internet connection to access, according to AIHA's announcement.

To install the app, forward the link www.cdc.gov/niosh/z-lab-945/saltlakecity to either an iPhone or Android device and tap the link to begin installation. Approximately 1.5 megabytes of data files will be downloaded to your device, using HTML5 local storage technology. According to NIOSH's instructions, the app should launch immediately after installation.

This is the final round of pre-release testing of the app, and time is short: NIOSH is asking for feedback by Sept. 1. Questions regarding the app should be directed to NIOSH's Joseph Cauley at [email protected] or by phone at 513-533-8366.
