Senate Confirms NHTSA Administrator, Two Chemical Safety Board Members

The CSB nominations had languished since January 2014.

The U.S. Senate confirmed a batch of presidential nominees by voice vote Dec. 16, including a new administrator for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and two members of the Chemical Safety Board. The CSB nominations had languished since January 2014.

Mark Rosekind, Ph.D., was confirmed as the NHTSA administrator. He previously was a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, and he also had worked as president and chief scientist of Alertness Solutions from 1997 to 2010, as chief of the Aviation Operations Branch in the Flight Management and Human Factors Division with NASA Ames Research Center, and as a research scientist at the Ames Research Center and team leader for the Fatigue Countermeasures Program in the Aviation Safety Research Branch of the Flight Management and Human Factors Division from 1990 to 1997, according to the White House announcement of his nomination in November 2014.

The vote confirmed Richard J. Engler and Manuel H. Ehrlich, Jr. as members of the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. Engler is the founder and director of the New Jersey Work Environment Council and previously was legislative director and vice president for the New Jersey Industrial Union Council, AFL-CIO. Ehrlich previously was the principal at ESP Consulting, according to the White House's announcement of his nomination in January 2014.
