Humantech Seeks Companies to Participate in Ergonomics Study

“We are looking for companies with established and effective ergonomic programs, who are regulated by OSHA, and who may have operations elsewhere in the world," said Walt Rostykus, vice president of Humantech.

Humantech Inc. will be conducting its fourth study in a series of ongoing benchmarking studies on current and effective methods for managing ergonomic conditions in the workplace. The goal of this study is to identify the key elements that are critical to the success of world-class ergonomics programs and to identify and evaluate the best practices of the organizations that are recognized as the leaders in the industry.

Domestic-based, Fortune 500 companies are needed to perform this study. “We are looking for companies with established and effective ergonomic programs, who are regulated by OSHA, and who may have operations elsewhere in the world,” said Walt Rostykus, CPE, CIH, CSP, and vice president of Humantech.

To maintain company confidentiality, participants are identified by industry type and size; their names are kept anonymous. “A maximum of up to 20 companies will be selected for the study, but all companies who volunteer to participate will receive a full copy of the summary report upon its completion," Rostykus said.

The most recent study, Elements of Successful Ergonomics Programs, was completed in 2010 and analyzed program elements and practices of companies recognized as successfully managing occupational ergonomics. Occupational ergonomics is defined by NIOSH as, “the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of the working populations. Ergonomics is an approach or solutions to deal with a number of problems, among them are work-related musculoskeletal disorders.” This study was conducted to better understand the status and current approaches of managing occupational ergonomics in the workplace.

After identifying the common and unique practices, trends, and challenging areas reported by the participants, the 2010 study compiled a list of key elements for success and best practices, and a list of areas participants planned on improving. Summaries of Humantech’s previous benchmarking studies can be found on our website at http://www.humantech.com/resources/articles.

To be considered for the study, companies must complete the 2011 Benchmarking Participation Survey located at Benchmarking Participation Survey by April 15, 2011. All volunteering participants will be notified by the end of April. If selected for the study, a representative from your organization will be contacted to schedule a confidential interview session. All interviews will be conducted at your location or by phone and may last for up to two hours.
