DuPont Sponsoring Gallery at Law Enforcement Museum

The maker of Kevlar announced Oct. 18 that it will sponsor a changing exhibition gallery at the museum in the 400 block of E Street NW in Washington, D.C.

Groundbreaking for the National Law Enforcement Museum took place Oct. 14 in the 400 block of E Street NW in Washington, D.C., across the street from the existing National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. When completed, the museum will offer hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, rotating educational installations about the history and future of law enforcement, and a Hall of Remembrance featuring mementos and stories about nearly 19,000 fallen officers.

DuPont, which makes Kevlar that is used in bullet-resistant vests, announced Oct. 18 it will sponsor a changing exhibition gallery to focus on current issues and provide an in-depth examination of milestones in the history of law enforcement. The company was involved in the creation of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, which was dedicated in 1991.

"Throughout DuPont's history, we have worked to promote the importance of safety and to protect law enforcement and military officers from the hazards they face daily," said Tom Powell, president of DuPont Protection Technologies. "We are proud to be partnering with the law enforcement community to help build this important landmark, to tell the story of American law enforcement, and to honor those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others."

The groundbreaking marked the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's official start of construction on the museum, which was authorized by Congress a decade ago.
