Owens Corning, Allstate Win Top NSC Awards
The building products company won the 2013 Green Cross for Safety Award, and Allstate and the Allstate Foundation received the Flame of Life award for their efforts to reduce teen traffic accident deaths
CHICAGO - The National Safety Council awarded two of its most prestigious awards Sept. 30 during the opening session of its 2013 National Safety Congress & Expo at this city's McCormick Place convention center. NSC President and CEO Janet Froetscher invited attendees to imagine the next century of safety as they build on the successes of predecessors who, collectively, saved an estimated 6 million lives since the council was founded in 2014, Froetscher said.
Owens Corning received the 2013 Green Cross for Safety Award and will be honored at a special dinner in spring 2014. The company makes building products for the world market. It is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and has approximately 15,000 employees worldwide.
Allstate and the Allstate Foundation accepted the Flame of Life award, which Froetscher said was only the fourth Flame of Life award presented by the council during its entire history. "This is a company that we believe has saved tens of thousands of lives," she said before presenting the trophy.
