FEMA Touts National Preparedness Month

Every September since 2004, the agency's Ready Campaign has urged Americans to be ready for all types of emergencies and disasters.

Hurricane Sandy, which inflicted severe damage in several northeastern states after making landfall in October 2012, is an object lesson for National Preparedness Month. This is FEMA's annual national preparedness outreach initiative, managed and sponsored by its Ready Campaign, each September since 2004.

The campaign works in conjunction with the Ad Council to educate the public about preparedness for natural disasters and even potential terrorist attacks. They offer a toolkit with suggested activities and events that governmental agencies, businesses, and community organizations could sponsor to promote the month.

The toolkit includes templates and drafts of newsletter articles, blogs, posters, and other collateral.
