Kroger Recalls Contaminated Spinach in 15 States
Kroger is recalling 10-ounce packages of fresh spinach that may be contaminated with a strain of listeria.
Kroger Co. is recalling 10 ounce packages of fresh spinach in 15 states. The bags of spinach may be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that when ingested can cause severe illness.
The packages of spinach are from the grocery store’s Fresh Selection line of produce and were sent to Kroger from NewStar Fresh Foods LLC.
The remaining packages of spinach, with the UPC code 0001111091649, has been removed from shelves and is recalled in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. In addition to Kroger, some stores owned by the company are also recalling this spinach, including Jay C, Owen's, Pay Less, Scott's, Food 4 Less, Dillons, Baker's, and Gerbes stores in selected states.
When ingested, listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea or diarrhea. Pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible.
