Kentucky Labor Cabinet Rolls Out Online Training

The agency's new training website offers training materials based on its regulations and developed in house. And in the future, the agency will offer training curricula that allow users to earn certificates of completion.

The Kentucky Labor Cabinet announced a new online training system available to Kentucky's employers. The Frankfort, Ky.-based agency described its new training website, http://laborcabinetetrain.ky.gov/, as "the gateway to an electronic library of training materials related to occupational safety and health." All of the materials on it are based on the cabinet’s regulations and industry best practices learned by its safety and health consultants during their careers.

"All content is being developed in-house," Labor Secretary Mark Brown said Jan. 30. "We are not using outside contractors for any content development. Employees of the Division of Education and Training are entirely responsible for all aspects of this new program. I'm proud of their hard work and support as we continue to try to serve more constituents with fewer resources."

The site will feature live webinars and pre-recorded, on-demand training modules, with additional courses developed and the online catalogue growing along with the library of course material. The agency said the initial subjects to be covered include hazard communication, fire safety, emergency eyewash and showers, emergency action plans, and PPE. "The Labor Cabinet has recognized and responded to the need for safety and health training products that are easy to access, cost-free, and readily available to Kentucky's business community," said Brown. "Employers will find this online training resource to be extremely valuable in their efforts to protect the safety and health of their employees."

Eventually, training curricula will be offered that allow users to earn a certificate of completion after they successfully complete all of the courses involved.
