Industrial Scientific Recalls GasBadge Plus Single-Gas Monitors
All current ones manufactured prior to February 2012 are affected. They may not properly indicate a low battery condition, causing a failure to alarm or a shutdown, according to the company.
Industrial Scientific Corporation (Oakdale, Pa.) announced a recall of all current GasBadge Plus instruments (v2.2 and earlier; manufactured prior to February 2012) on Jan. 30, saying in its recall notice that it has determined the GasBadge® Plus single-gas instrument "may not properly indicate a low battery condition resulting in a failure to alarm or instrument shut down. This condition is exacerbated when the instrument is used in temperatures below room temperature (72 degrees F/22 degrees C)."

It includes the part numbers for all five types of instruments being recalled -- carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. No other Industrial Scientific products are affected by this recall, it states.
The notice says the company will exchange all recalled instruments at no charge for new GasBadge Plus v3.0 units that correct the low battery condition problem and will include a warranty covering any remaining warranty period of the recalled instrument.
While some recalled units will give a visual alarm and indicate "Call ISC" on the display when they detect a low battery condition, others may not detect it and may not properly alarm when they detect a gas concentration above the set alarm level, the notice explains.
