NSC Preview: Visiting Philly's Top Ten Tourist Attractions

VisitPhilly.com, the official visitor website for Greater Philadelphia, says Franklin Square leads the list.

VisitPhilly.com is a website not to be missed by anyone preparing to travel to Philadelphia for next week's 2011 National Safety Congress & Expo. It lists the top 10 tourist attractions in greater Philadelphia, starting with Franklin Square, one of five public squares in Philadelphia laid out in William Penn’s original 1682 plan for the city. The full list:

1. Franklin Square
2. Philadelphia Museum of Art
3. Valley Forge National Historical Park
4. The Liberty Bell Center
5. National Constitution Center
6. Longwood Gardens
7. Independence Hall
8. The Franklin Institute
9. The Barnes Foundation
10. The Rocky Statue

The website's press room has lots of tips and useful information for visitors. An Oct. 6 press release lists eight new breweries and brewpubs that will open soon in the region. An Oct. 17 release says the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation is the first destination to launch a major program on Foodspotting, a website and mobile platform dedicated to helping people find and share good food, by adding seven new guides to foodspotting.com/visitphilly.

With these seven additions, visitors to foodspotting.com/visitphilly have 21 themed food and drink lists from which to choose. The new ones are:

  • The Hoagie: Philly's Go-to Cold Sandwich: Delicious hoagies from South Philly to the suburbs
  • Classic Cocktails: Best ways to drink in Philadelphia's Prohibition history
  • Gluten-Free Philly: Great gluten-free dining options
  • Hot Dog Days of Philadelphia: Haute dogs to traditionally topped ones
  • Meatball Madness: Comfort food that Philly restaurants are having a ball with
  • Philly's Coffee Scene
