LAFD Ready for 13th Annual 'Hope for Firefighters'

Billed as the largest firefighter fundraiser in the country, this annual event benefits a fund for widows, orphans, and disabled firefighters.

Los Angeles Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa, representatives of a bevy of corporate sponsors, players from the Los Angeles Kings hockey team, and more than 5,000 LA residents are expected to take part in June 3's 13th Annual "Hope for Firefighters" fundraising event from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles.

The event is advertised as the largest firefighter fundraiser in the country and benefits the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association’s Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen’s Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Live music, meals prepared by more than 25 fire stations throughout the city, fire apparatus, demonstrations, LAFD gift merchandise booths, raffle drawings, prizes, trophies, and firefighter "muster" games will take place, the latter featuring more than 20 sponsored teams competing for trophies and prizes in bucket brigade, firefighter suit-up, and a hose pull contest. More than $100,000 in donations is raised each year through this event.
