CDC Injury Center Releases New Research Agenda

CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, a branch located in Atlanta, has released a new Injury Research Agenda that describes its research needs and priorities for 2009–2018.

These are the 2009–2018 research priority topics listed in the 120-page agenda: Injury Response (Acute Injury Care, Traumatic Brain Injury), Unintentional Injury Prevention (Home and Community; Sports, Recreation, and Exercise; Transportation), Violence Prevention (Child Maltreatment, Sexual Violence and Intimate Partner Violence, Suicidal Behavior, Youth Violence). Links to the entire agenda and a short video about it are available at this site.

"Investing in these priorities will help prevent needless deaths and painful, costly injuries," the center's announcement said. "We know that we can make a difference. We look forward to working with the injury prevention and control community to implement this agenda for a safer, healthier nation –- one in which all people can live to their full potential."

The announcement says the center's initial research agenda was published in 2002 and guided its research through 2007. "Over the past year, we updated and revised the agenda, reviewing research accomplishments to date and progress toward achieving the goals outlined in the original agenda," it says.
