McElveen-Hunter Tapped Again for Top Red Cross Post

The White House on June 12 announced President George W. Bush will appoint Bonnie McElveen-Hunter to be Chairman of the Board of Governors of the American National Red Cross, for a term of three years. McElveen-Hunter has been appointed by the president for a top American Red Cross post before -- he appointed her chairman on June 18, 2004, making her first woman to be selected as chairman during ARC's 126-year history at that time.

She founded and headed Pace Communications, a custom publishing company, and was U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Finland from 2001-2003. She also headed Women's Business Leaders Summit in 2004 in Riga, Latvia and Amman, Jordan in 2007.

She served as a member of the International Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity and served on the United Way of America Board as a member of its National Leadership Council. She is a founder of the United Way Billion Dollar National Women's Leadership Initiative, according to the White House's announcement.
